Louisiana (LA) Medical Marijuana Laws

For decades Louisiana law ostensibly allowed physicians licensed in the state to recommend the use of medical marijuana for certain seriously ill patients, but it wasn’t until 2017 that legislation was signed into law to establish a legal framework for medical cannabis. The new law, which is not yet enacted, amends Louisiana Revised Statutes Tit. 40, § 1040. The amendments are expected to provide protections for patients, caregivers, and physicians, in addition to licensing protocols and other regulatory controls.
