A history of cannabis use is not contraindicated in patients undergoing organ transplants, according to data published in the journal Current Psychiatry Reports. Investigators at the University of Michigan assessed the potential role of cannabis consumption in post-transplant complications. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is being sued by a 12-year-old Colorado girl suffering from epilepsy who aims to legalize medical marijuana nationwide. Alexis Bortell, along with her father and other plaintiffs, including former NFL player Marvin Washington, filed suit in the Southern District of New York against the attorney general as well as the Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Agency. Maine is cracking down on the distribution of medical marijuana by allowing surprise inspections and implementing a new patient tracking system. The state Department of Health and Human Services issued new rules Wednesday that tighten Maine’s medical marijuana market. The Portland Press Herald reports the rules will take effect on Feb. 1 and the department did not issue a statement to accompany the new rules. Cannabis edibles are Maine’s fastest growing medical marijuana segment and now make up about 7.4 percent of the market. Maine’s medical marijuana patients spent $2 million on cannabis edibles products in 2016, according to state tax records, up from $1.2 million the year before. Edibles are the fastest growing segment of the state’s medical marijuana market and now account for about 7.4 percent of the state’s $26.8 million industry.
